Welcome to Children in Law
Children in Law is the great grandchild of a collection of websites and blogs I have written and run in the past 15+ years about children and the law in the UK. I couldn’t find a website which covered what I needed, so I decided to write it myself and have carried on ever since. I’ve now brought everything under one roof – you will find articles written for lawyers and non-lawyers, blogs, links to other useful resources and links to my other web publications. I can’t give advice to individuals but if you email me a question I will do my best to post something which helps.
I’m a family law barrister specialising in cases about children and have been for over 25 years. I work for family members, Guardians & local authorities as an independent advocate in court. I am usually instructed by solicitors but you can also instruct me directly through my chambers at 4 Brick Court. My office is in the Temple in London but I travel all over London & the South-East for work & my arm can be twisted to go further.
I was one of the first family lawyers to have a website back in about 1999. I enjoy sharing some of what I know through blogging and writing but it’s just me doing it around my day job, wildflower spotting, cycling, stroking the cat and the husband, feeding the cat and the husband etc so the coverage may seem a bit random (because it is) but it’s written with love and care and occasional bouts of outrage.

How can I help you?
The About Me page and my entry on 4 Brick Court’s website will tell you about my experience and the sort of cases I take on.
On this website there are blogposts with legal updates, links to my other publications curating family law stories and articles summarising the law on the topics like interim removal, final care orders, care or supervision orders, fact finding hearings and so on which may help with submissions. Feel free to use them and please let me know if there are new cases you think could be included or other points which could be covered.
The Family Law Webworld blog links to other websites on topics relevant to family law (e.g. addiction, experts, assessment resources). The Paramount Consideration blog is about legal developments in children cases. Bloody Relations is written for family members – you might want to go there for helpful advice for clients. And browse through the Law is a Funny Business for a bit of light relief!
If you have come to this page you are probably involved in a family case or someone you know and care about is. If you want to know more about me and how you can instruct me you will find it on the about page and on my chambers’ website . You might have to represent yourself and you will find help on this site and on others which there are links to. Even if you have a lawyer you will help them to help you if you understand as much as you can about the family justice system.
I’m afraid I can’t give legal advice unless I am properly instructed but if you want to ask a question get in touch and I will post something to help or point you in the right direction.
Please note I don’t cover anything to do with divorce and money in any detail – there are links to sites covering these topics though and my scoopit magazines have stories about divorce and more general legal issues.
