I am a family law barrister and while not my primary business, this website aims to share key facts and interesting information in my area of expertise, being UK family law as it relates to cases about children.
This website contains information about law which applies to children in the UK (child law). I occasionally post things about divorce but this is not my area of expertise any more so there won’t be so much of that unless it is relevant to children. I continue to curate stories about divorce in the Scoop.it – Decree Absolute and more general legal stories in the Scoop.it – Legal In General.
The content of this website is not intended to constitute legal advice, nor should it be treated as such. I do my best to summarise the law accurately but every family case is different and there may be reasons why what I say does not apply to your situation. I therefore do not accept responsibility for any reliance you may place upon what I say.
I try to keep the information on the website up to date and accurate but I write things in my own time around my day job and other commitments and I can’t always keep track of everything.
There are links to other websites relevant to family law and child law but I am not responsible for their content. I obviously try to avoid linking to sites which are not reliable but a link does not mean an endorsement.
As a family lawyer I cannot and do not write about individual cases I am involved in without anonymising heavily to make sure I don’t break the law. I can’t publish anything which might identify an individual child involved in a court case and I will have to refuse any comments which do so unless the identity is already publicly known. I may also have to refuse comments if they are defamatory or in contempt of court, incite crime, break court injunctions, contain abusive, obscene or discriminatory language etc. I’m not particularly interested in publishing comments which are simply insulting to individuals so please try to keep it impersonal. I will also delete anything which is spam or a naked attempt to advertise (or an attempt to advertise naked). Please don’t try to post material which is not yours but copied from somewhere else without permission and acknowledgement.
Talking of advertising, currently I don’t want adverts on the site. If I do later on I will publish my policy. I may accept guest posts but only if they are relevant to UK family law and are not simply naked attempts to advertise (whether thinly veiled or otherwise).
If you have any concerns about anything I publish please let me know by commenting so I can correct anything that is wrong.
To download some of the material on the website you will be asked to provide your email address. In future I will create a regular newsletter which I will send you but I won’t use the email address for anything else unless I have your permission and if you don’t want the newsletter you will be able to unsubscribe. I don’t mind if you reproduce my work but please don’t change it and pass it off as mine without my permission. And naturally, you do so at your own risk. If you want to republish it anywhere please ask me.
Please let me know if there is anything particular you would like me to cover on the website and I will do my best, or at least point you to a resource which might help.
