Education Act 1996 a huge Act consolidating previous legislation from the 1944 Education Act onwards.
Education Act 1997 a wide-ranging Act – the Conservatives’ last before Labour returned to power – which extended the assisted places scheme to primary schools, replaced the National Council for Vocational Qualifications (NCVQ) and the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority (SCAA) with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) etc.
Education Act 2002 wide-ranging Act which implemented the proposals in the 2001 White Paper Schools: achieving success.
Education Act 2005 mostly concerned with changes to the inspection regime.
Education Act 2011 increased schools’ powers relating to pupil behaviour and exclusions, further diminished the role of local authorities, further expansion of academies etc.
Education Reform Act 1988 gave powers to central government to dictate National Curriculum and attainment standards
Education (Schools) Act 1997 abolished the assisted places scheme and proposed binding home-school agreements (the latter not implemented).
Learning and Skills Act 2000 established the Learning and Skills Councils for England and Wales, allowed city technology colleges to be renamed city academies.
School Standards and Framework Act 1998 a wide-ranging Act which, among other things, encouraged selection by specialisation, changed the names of types of schools, limited infant class sizes, and established Education Action Zones.
Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998 established the General Teaching Council (GTC), abolished student maintenance grants and required students to contribute towards tuition fees.
